RIP Gucci

Our beloved family dog died last night around 10:30pm of apparent heart attack. We were so blessed to be graced with dog as beautiful as Gucci was.  She brought so much joy and love to our family. I'll miss you so much already girl, I hope your getting your Beggin treats up in doggie heaven.

Gucci, thank you for being part of our lives. We love you and will NEVER forget you

Happy 2006!

Well, last update for 2005., dayum...time flies when you are having fun.

We had a nice Christmas although I didn't have any Christmas spirit it was all good. We went to see the Red Wings play the Stars here in Dallas. The boys got new Red Wing jerseys along with tickets to the game. All four of us had Red Wing Jerseys on :) It was a great game and Detroit handed Dallas their ass (again) in their own barn.

Nothing cooler than some gear shots :)

I'm going old school. I've been getting out of the whole pointy head stuff and redefining my collection. I like stratheads. I'm more into transparent finish , quilt-tops and flame-tops. I scored this 5A Flame top GMW and she sure is purdy. I also finished another strat head project so pap woody over these two babies.

Blackhorse Charvel Replica is complete. I finished this one today. It came out pretty nice if you ask me. Its hard to photo but nonetheless, here ya go;

Big head project nearly complete

Finally got around to snapping a few pictures of the Seafoam green strat that I built from parts.

Seafoam Green and Surf Green

Wow over 3 months since I updated this :)  Well we went to Disney World once the boys got out of school. We had a blast. We stayed at the  Polynesian Resort for 7 days and then went down to Fort Pierce to visit my parents. Here's a few pictures.

That's my wife and 2 boys

Well it has been a while since my last update so today I decided to take some new pictures of my music room/studio. I hate digital cameras or perhaps photography isn't my bag because I can't take very good pictures. I took 35 pix today and really only about 10 of them are worth keeping. Here's a few....

RIP Dimebag Darrell

Rest in peace my friend.

I didn't think this would have as big of an impact on me as it has. I really feel like I lost a family member and I really wasn't a big Pantera fan, its pretty strange and I can't explain it. Being in Texas since 87 I frequented the same clubs they did. I feel a connection with him. I have yet to hear anyone have anything but a positive experience in meeting Darrell. I personally know several people who have met him, hung out with him and played on the same bill as he has. He really was a cool guy, very down to earth, made whoever he talked to feel like a friend and he had no rock star ego. He went out of his way to meet his fans and to make them feel comfortable being around him. In Dallas he is very well respected and is being referred to as a guitar legend and heavy metal hero. He was a Dallas Stars fan and wrote the Dallas Stars fight song, best in the NHL.

I wasn't into Pantera very much and got away from them when they vocals became less melody inspired but after this tragedy, I have decided to learn 'Cemetery Gates" just as a tribute to Dime. Its a cool song and has clean parts, cool vocals and some interesting guitar playing to say the least. Dime was a great player, I feel saddened that I have waited so long learn any of his stuff.

Here is a live version of "Cemetery Gates" to show what kind of player Dime really was.

Rest in peace Darrell....God Bless you

The reverend he turned to me
Without a tear in his eyes
It's nothing new for him to see
I didn't ask him why
I will remember
The love our souls had
Sworn to make
Now I watch the falling rain
All my mind can see
Now is your (face)

Well I guess
You took my youth
I gave it all away
Like the birth of a
New-found joy
This love would end in rage
And when she died
I couldn't cry
The pride within my soul
You left me incomplete
All alone as the memories now unfold.

Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the
Cemetery gates

Sometimes when I'm alone
I wonder aloud
If you're watching over me
Some place far abound
I must reverse my life
I can't live in the past
Then set my soul free
Belong to me at last

Through all those
Complex years
I thought I was alone

I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she died
I should've cried and spared myself some pain...
Left me incomplete
All alone as the memories still remain

The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates

11/18/2004 - Bogner Ecstasy 101B

Yes, listening to all the hype about this amp and hearing all the great clips posted on various boards I was caught at a weak moment and decided to snipe a 101B in the last seconds of an auction on eBay. Ir was a nice attempt that I really didn't think I was going to win because they were going for a couple hundred more than my max bid. The amp cam in today and man o man, it lives up to its hype. What an awesome tone machine. See more in the Amplification page after I spend some time with it and get to know it better, but my initial impression!

Here's some pictures of the head and footswitch from the auction. I'll take some pictures when I post my review on the Amplification page.  Matches my Bogner 4x12 too.

Since I was actually bidding on a Soldano Hot Rod 50XL at  the same time I was was bidding on a Soldano 4x12 cab thinking I'd have a Solodano head to go with it. After I won the Bogner head I'm glad I was out bid on the 50XL :)  I did decide to snipe the cab though since I'll need a cab for my VHT now. I scored the cab for $315, yes that is correct. These cabs go for $990 new at Musicians friend. This cab has grey tolex and casters on it. It hasn't came in yet

11/0/2004 -GMW Arrives

I took delivery of my GMW Charvel replica. Great guitar and its built very well

10/16/2004 - no NHL season, VHT and Bogner are in. Auralex Studiofoam

Well, its supposed to be the start of the NHL season but the NHLPA and Owners could not reach an agreement over a  new collective bargaining agreement so there is a lock-out or work stoppage. You  know what, hell with the league and the players. There will be no season, let these ass-clowns go get a real job and see if they complain about 10 million a season. As much as I love NHL hockey, I have been a fan since I was 4, I really could care less if there is a season at all, which would be by the way, the first time there were no NHL playoffs if the entire season is lost.

I got in the VHT amp and Bogner cab in  and I love them both. Man what a sweet combination, the VHT rocks (could VHT stand for Van Halen Tone?) This amp is smoking hot and warm, full and rich. The Bogner 4x12 is one of the better sounding cabinets that I have ever played through. See the amplification page for more info on that.

Since I have been playing  the amps more and more and they are loud I decided I needed to do something about sound proofing. So today I installed some Auralex absorption wedge sheets. I got eight 3inch thick, 2x4 foot sheets and covered up part of amp wall in my little studio as well as the windows.  Its nice in dark in there now, less natural room acoustics but can't comment on the sound proofing aspect just yet. I do know that it will be a better recording environment now. I need to get some more but the stuff isn't cheap. I'm not looking for 100% coverage with the stuff, that would be stupid, my studio is not a vocal booth :) I may just add a couple more sheets on the ceiling and a few 12x12inch tiles strategically positioned around the room. I need to install some track lighting now. There is 2 windows windows in this room and now they are covered up, its movie theater dark in here even it the bright sunlight so I need some better lighting.

9/14/2004 - Soldano Hot Mod, VHT and Bogner

I acquired a Soldano Hot Mod which is a tube like device that replaces the middle 12AX7 pre-amp tube on single channel amps. This mod about doubled the amount of gain on my JCM 800 head. It so simple to install and is reversible. I love the tone of a vintage amp and I don't care to have it modded by Voodoo or Splawn. I'd just assume  use different amps for different tones than hack up a vintage Marshall. Anyway I think its pretty cool and when I  first tried it out I went straight guitar, cable amp and kept thinking I had my SD-1 on, but no, enough gain and drive. No need for pedals here.

I also bit the bullet and got a killer deal on a VHT Pitbull Fifty CL with EQ and Reverb. I cannot wait for this amp to come in. This is a 50 watt dual channel head with EL-34s.

I have a beat on a Bogner 4x12 like this one to go with it. It is a slant 4x12 with Vintage 30 Celetions

I have some pictures of these once I get them in. I need to quit listening to those Bogner XTC Classic clips from the Bogner site or I'm gonna be in trouble, I may need to move some gear around here shortly.

Look for reviews of these on my amplification page in the near future.

8/21/2004 - Mesa Cab and Vacation Pictures

Its been a while but I picked up a Mesa 1x12 widebody 3/4 back extension cab to go with my DC-5 combo. This cab really helped in making this amp come to life. It now has a lot bigger and fuller sound than before. This sounds nice in a stereo set-up with my 2203 and 4x12 Marshall cab.

Sorry I can't take pictures of it so I'll have to use these from the auction

Here's a couple pictures from our Gatlinburg  trip. My digital camera doesn't have drivers for XP and I rebuilt my sons win98 box with XP so I have to find an alternate way getting my pics outta my camera into the PC. These are from a regular camera and a photo CD.

Waterfall, worth the 2.5 mile hike we took, beautiful.

Smoky Mountain Sunset,  you had to be there. I think my digital will have more detail.

My boys  Aaron and Ian

Me and Ian and Aaron. They swam in the river and as we got up in elevation it got a lot cooler

This is the stream/river winds all throughout the park

I have to say that I rally love this park, nature at its finest. We'll probably go to Yellowstone next trip

7/28/2004  - The New Charvel Website is up and running1

FMIC has created a website strictly for Charvel guitars as opposed to just having a link for a Charvels on the products section of Jackson's site. I think its pretty cool as most people who've been around refer to the brand as Charvel/Jackson instead of Jackson/Charvel. Check it out  New products and everything. They have officially released the news at the summer NAMM  that they are bringing back Charvels, pointy strats and the Star which is cool as hell. They are also offering the EVH series which are not striped and signed by Eddie, boy I bet the guys who paid out the ass for the ones on eBay are bummed out.

I think its great news and I'm hoping that Fender will let them produce custom orders with the strat headstocks. We're getting closer and closer all the time to it.

7/27/2004 - Back from Vacation in the Smokey Mountains

We were in Tennessee, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for a week on vacation. We had a great time and stayed in a Chalet on top of a mountain overlooking Gatlinburg. We did the whole tourist trap stuff, Dollywood, a few Ripley's Believe it or Not, Aquarium, Haunted adventure, and Ober which is a ski resort park with rides and stuff, as well as the always beautiful Great Smokey Mountain National Park. I don't know what is about that place but I love it. This is the second time we have taken the kids there and we still have yet to see and do everything that there is to do there. I took a bunch of digital photos that I need to download to my pc but I'm too tired and toasted to do it right now.

7/9/2004 -  Eddies Back and the Mesa arrived

Big News is that Eddie Van Halen was spotted playing a new black and white Charvel strat head the other night. It is official that he is associated with Charvel in some form. Check it out folks.

Eddie is actually masking the stripes on these as pictured above. I think it is so cool although I really don't care for the striped guitars (or Eddies wall paper) it is a huge move and a big plus for us Charvel fans

Also today I got in the Mesa/Boogie DC 5 (see amp page)

I figured I will share this. My sons are so cool and they left couple notes on my desk, with cool little drawings.

"Dad, you Rock"

"the can of whoop BUTT, Rock on!

"Please go back to your band so we can see you make HEAVY METAL!!!"

7/5/2004 - The amp Mesa amp quest is over. After looking long and hard on eBay I finally pulled the Trigger on a Mesa/Boogie Dc-5 on 7/5. I was so tired of looking that I would bought a ghetto blaster out of a guy off the street just to get it over with:)
